So far, so good
I'm in Southern Virginia (Lake Gaston) and planted this seed 2 weeks ago (after plugging and fertilizing lawn). Water it every day for 15-20 minutes and have had great seed germination and growth. This was an already established lawn so I'm hoping the Gold grass will eventually take over the clover and other grass that is already growing.

Highly disappointed
A few weeks back I reseeded my entire lawn with two bags of grass seed. One was Scotts Souther Gold and the other was a totally different brand. I seeded half of the lawn with one seed and the other half with the other seed. The Scotts seed barely grew at all. I mean weeks later its just dirt for the most part. Meanwhile the other side of the lawn was thick and about 3 inches tall. Each part of the yard got the same amount of water and has had 100% of the same process. I cannot state how disappointed I am in this seed especially when it was about 60% more expensive than the other brand. This will be the last time I ever try Scotts.

    Worthless.
Horrible growth rate, even after providing the most meticulous setting for germination. Patchy growth, large bare spots. I've used fescue seed every fall here (Atlanta, GA) for 10 years and this was the worst outcome. Scotts: Don't bother listing your lengthy "make sure you do this, this and this" like you did on the other 1-star review. Everything was done correctly by a professional. Your seed was garbage.

    No germination !
After two 40 lbs bags I have nothing. Rented a dethatcher and prep the lawn. Planted mid September which couldn't have been better timing. Watered. We have nothing after more than a full month. I should have read the reviews. The number of similar reviews is amazing. Bought a different brand seed to plant this weekend to avoid backyard full of mud this winter. Ridiculous.

    No germination after 16 days
Followed all directions. Raked, watered 3x a day. Temperatures above 65f at night and below 88f during day. Zero germination.

Still waiting for a seed to sprout ????
In late April, I overseeded my fescue lawn to address some thinning areas that needed attention. I have a sprinkler system so it's easy to set the timer to water a couple times a day to keep the seed moist. I always take my time and prep the areas before seeding... I have used Scotts seed for years and never had such pitiful results....This has gotten very expensive and time consuming for an old guy.

Horriblr option for TRUE southern lawns!
Bought this "Southern Gold" formulated for southern lawns seed last fall and planted here in north Georgia. Prepped the soil, fertilized, planted, watered and had a beautiful lawn all through winter and early spring. Fertilized again in spring and as soon as it got warm (June) it started to brown even with plenty of regular rainfall and moderate temperatures. By July it was BROWN BROWN! All other yards in the neighborhood lush green due to regular rain fall. Yard is not even full sun! Seed packaging said "grown in Oregon"...so what, its for southern OREGON??? Hate this product and the work I will have to do AGAIN this fall with a better true southern seed. Pic1 - early spring lush green grass Pic 2 and 3 what it looks like now. Pic 4 next to neighbors green grass. This seed is NOT SOUTHERN GOLD!!!

    Good Grass Seed
An easy buy and the product is very good. The only drawback was the time it took to ship and receive the item.

    Sturdy mixture
I bought this seed three weeks ago, I would say 78% germinate to date. I Feel if it wasn’t for the amount of wood chips in the Scott’s lawn soil it would have been closer to 98% gemination. For the price of Scott’s lawn soil they obviously are pretty proud of it, I would suggest they sift the (mulch) chips out.
    Kinda happy
